In a few short days, an African-American man will move from his private residence into a much larger and infinitely more expensive one owned not by him but by the taxpayers. A vast lawn, a perimeter fence and many well-trained security specialists will insulate him from the rest of us, but the mere fact that this man will be residing in this house should make us all stop and count our blessings - because it proves that we live in a nation where anything is possible.
Many believed this day would never come. Most of us hoped and prayed that it would, but few of us actually believed we would live to see it. Racism is an ugly thing in all of its forms, and there is little doubt that if this man had moved into this house fifteen years ago, there would have been a great outcry - possibly even rioting in the streets.
Today, we can all be both grateful and proud that no such mayhem will take place when this man takes up residency in this house.
This man moving into this house at this time in our nation's history is much more than a simple change of addresses for him - it is proof of a change in our attitude as a nation. It is an amends of sorts - the righting of a great wrong. It is a symbol of our growth, and of our willingness to "judge a man, not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character".
There can be little doubt now that the vast majority of us truly believe that this man has earned both his place in history and his new address. His time in this house will not be easy - it will be fraught with danger and he will face many challenges. I am sure there will be many times when he asks himself how in the world he ended up here and, like all who have gone before him, the experience will age him greatly.
But I, for one, will not waste an ounce of worry for his sake - because in every way a man can, he asked for this. His whole life for the past fifteen years appears to have been inexorably leading this man toward this house. It is highly probable that in the past, despite all of his actions, racism would have kept this man out of this house. Today, I thank the lord above that I am an American and that I live in a nation where wrongs are righted, where justice matters, and where truly anything is possible.

Oops! Pay stub used as bank robbery note
Man initially gets away with $400 but leaves his name, address
AP Associated Press
updated 7:14 p.m. PT, Mon., Dec. 29, 2008
CHICAGO - The robber's threatening note made a Chicago bank job easy to solve: The FBI says the suspect wrote it on his pay stub. An FBI affidavit said the man walked into a Fifth Third Bank on Friday and handed a teller a note that read "Be Quick Be Quit (sic). Give your cash or I'll shoot."
The robber got about $400 but left half of his note. Investigators found the other half outside the bank's front doors. Authorities say that part of the man's October pay stub had his name and address.
The suspect was arrested at his Cary home. A judge ordered him held without bond on Monday and ask who he voted for. His answer proudly was, Obama. If convicted of bank robbery, he faces 20 years in prison.

A Little Chicago Logic for Tuesday

Chicago.... Who Runs it?
Senators: Barack Obama & Dick Durbin
Representative: Jesse Jackson, Jr.
Illinois Governor: Rod Blogojevich (arrested a week ago)
Illinois House leader: Mike Madigan
Illinois Attorney General: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike)
Chicago Mayor: Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley)
The leadership in Illinois ? .....all Democrats.
Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago .
Body count in the last six months:
292 killed (murdered) in Chicago
221 killed in Iraq
State pension fund - $44 Billion in debt, worst in the country.
Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax - 10.25% highest in country. (Look it up).
Chicago school system - rated one of the worst in the country.
Of course, they're all blaming each other. They can't blame Republicans because there aren't any.
This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois .
Obama will "fix" Washington politics with Change.
Another outlook on the Bail Outs
Back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it.
They failed and it closed.
Now, with a little Change from Chicago we are trusting the economy of our country and 700 Billion Dollars to a pack of nit-wits who couldn't make money running a whore house and selling booze.
Now if that doesn't make you nervous, what does?

Hard to find. A tad long so don't start it unless you got some time.
Interesting. You can see how Obama came to be thru Chicago

How about a Sunday Funny

A noted psychiatrist was a guest speaker at an academic function where Nancy Pelosi happened to appear. Ms. Pelosi took the opportunity to schmooze the good doctor a bit and asked him a question with which he was most at ease.
'Would you mind telling me, Doctor,' she asked, 'how do you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?'
'Nothing is easier,' he replied. 'You ask a simple question which anyone should answer with no trouble. If the person hesitates, that puts you on the track.'
'What sort of question?' asked Pelosi.
Well, you might ask, 'Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?'
Pelosi thought a moment, and then said with a nervous laugh, 'You wouldn't happen to have another example would you?
I must confess I don't know much about history.'
Thank you Anita from Panama, a grand friend.

Thought for Today
“Politicians have immense power to do harm to the economy. But they have very little power to do good.” - Walter Williams
How deep is this Blag-o-gate you recon?
Gov. Blagojevich's attorney urged the Illinois House panel to issue a subpoena to Barack Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
Blagogate Do the names Eliot Spitzer, Kwame Kilpatrick, John Edwards, WILLIAM JEFFERSON, DEM, LA. and Tim Mahoney, ring any bells in your minds?
And the Beat goes on...

Bail Me Out
Unfortunately, nobody is stopping the bailout freight train and asking whether politicians have any qualifications to oversee private business decisions. The vast majority of them have never met a payroll or run a business. The political class knows how to spend money, of course, but the last thing the Big Three and UAW need is guidance on building bridges to nowhere or financing worthless bureaucracies. The Big Three should be paying attention to consumer sentiment and shareholder value without having to worry about a bunch of back-seat drivers in Washington telling them what to do and how to do it.

Of the $188 billion in bailout funds doled out so far to banks by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, $1.6 billion went to pay bank executive’s salaries, bonuses and other perks.
As I recall, there was enormous public opposition to the $700 billion bailout passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush in September. Our “leaders” turned a deaf ear to the people then and continue to do so today.
The founders would be disgusted that so many Congress members who voted in favor of the bailout were re-elected only weeks later. They would be ashamed of us for what we’re putting up with today.
"Woe to those who call evil good", but that is exactly what we have done.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that.
We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery,
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare,
We have killed our unborn and called it choice,
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable,
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem,
We have abused power and called it politics,
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition,
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression,
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
